Paze is an online checkout solution offered by participating banks and credit unions that is designed to enhance ease. It allows consumers to check out without sharing their actual card numbers with merchants by using tokenization instead. Eligible credit and debit cards are pre-loaded into the Paze wallet, reducing the need to manually enter card details during checkout.

You can use Paze in three easy steps:

  1. Open your participating bank or credit union’s mobile app or website and locate the digital wallet section.
  2. Select Paze and complete the activation prompts.
  3. Shop at participating merchant sites and when checking out, select Paze and enter the email address or phone number associated with your financial institution to access your wallet.

Using Paze is fast and convenient. Paze is designed to provide a streamlined online checkout experience. Because transactions use tokenization, a consumer’s card number and information is not shared with merchants. Eligible credit and debit cards are automatically pre-loaded into the Paze wallet, allowing for fast checkout without manually entering card details.

Paze supports eligible credit and debit cards issued by participating banks and credit unions. Currently, eight of the nation’s largest banks including Bank of America, Capital One, Chase, Citi, PNC, Truist, U.S. Bank, and Wells Fargo support Paze. Consumers can see which of their cards are eligible by logging into their financial institution’s mobile app or website.

Consumers do not need to complete a separate sign-up process to use Paze. Instead, they can activate the service through their participating bank or credit union’s mobile app or website. When shopping online, consumers can select Paze at checkout with participating merchants or enter the email address or phone number associated with their financial institution to access their wallet.

Consumers can opt out of Paze by visiting paze.com/optout after their participating bank or credit union has added eligible cards to the service. Financial institutions notify customers when their cards are added. For additional assistance, consumers are advised to contact their bank or credit union directly.

Paze can be used for online checkout with participating merchants. A current list of merchants that offer Paze is available here.

Paze is offered by participating banks and credit unions, including Bank of America, Capital One, Chase, Citi, Elan, PNC, Star One Credit Union, Truist, U.S. Bank, and Wells Fargo.

There are no additional fees for consumers to use Paze.

Paze Pulse® Report: Building Trust With Today’s Consumer

April 24, 2026

Our new voice of the consumer research reveals decisions driving conversion, loyalty, and revenue based on trust.

A customer reaches your checkout page ready to buy. Product selected, intent confirmed. And then something unexpected happens. They hesitate, switch to guest checkout, manually enter their card details...or abandon the purchase entirely.

Many merchants conflate these moments with frictiontoo many steps, too much time, too much complexity. But our latest research points to a different root cause: trust.

We’re seeing that consumers are not simply completing transactions. They are actively evaluating whether they trust the experience, often in ways that are invisible to merchants.

These trust decisions have direct business implications:

  • Conversion rates
  • Cart abandonment
  • Repeat purchase behavior
  • Customer lifetime value

Many of the shopping behaviors merchants try to optimize away, like guest checkout or manual entry, are deliberate risk-management strategies for consumers.

Trust is evaluated across four pillars

Our research found that consumers assess trust across four key dimensions:

  • Reliability
  • Security
  • Recourse
  • Control

These pillars can shape behavior before, during, and after checkout. A breakdown in any one of them can cause a transaction to fail.

The takeaway for merchants

Efforts to optimize checkout often focus on reducing steps, increasing speed, and simplifying design. While these improvements can enhance usability, they may not drive meaningful gains in isolation.

We asked Accelerant Research to conduct research on consumers’ online payment experiences and what drives conversion. The results of that research revealed that conversion is ultimately a function of trust. Consumers complete transactions when they feel confident that the experience will be reliable, secure, and supported if something goes wrong.

Merchants that recognize trust as a system, rather than a single feature, are better positioned to build lasting customer relationships and drive sustained growth.

Terms and Conditions: When you select Paze® to check out with participating online merchants between June 15, 2026 and  September 10, 2026 (the “Offer Period”) and spend $10 or more in a single transaction that is approved (a “Qualifying Purchase”), as determined by the authorization date or the clearing date, depending on the payment network, Paze, on behalf of your participating financial institution, or the participating financial institution will apply a $10 statement credit to the eligible credit or debit card account you select from your Paze wallet to complete the transaction (the “Offer”).

When you check out using Paze at an eligible merchant and for an eligible transaction, the Offer details will appear in your Paze wallet when you select your eligible credit or debit card. If the Offer details do not appear during Paze checkout or if Paze checkout does not appear as a method of payment, the transaction will not be eligible for the Offer. Eligibility for the Offer may be determined based on transaction type or how the merchant is classified by the applicable payment network. Transactions at merchants classified by the applicable payment network in certain categories may not be eligible for the Offer, including merchants categorized as gambling or betting services (e.g., casinos, lotteries, sportsbooks, and online gambling sites), drug stores and pharmacies (including pet pharmacies), financial services (e.g., cash disbursements, cryptocurrency, foreign currency, prepaid cards, leases, loans, money transfer, securities), adult/dating content/services, guns and ammunition, courts/government fines, political fundraising, medical services and healthcare providers (not including Quest Diagnostics), spa and massage services, specialty stores (e.g., beauty supplies—not including Sephora, collectibles, fireworks, frames, monuments, magic, maps, sunglasses, trophies), tele/direct marketing (e.g., classified ads, subscriptions, travel-related services—not including consumer initiated airline sales), and wholesale durable goods. Merchant categories can change at any time without notice, which may lead to additional exclusions from the Offer. Please review your agreement governing your underlying credit or debit card with your participating financial institution to determine whether additional merchant restrictions apply.

If Paze and another method of payment are used to facilitate a single purchase, only the amount charged to the eligible card through Paze will be considered in determining whether the $10 minimum transaction requirement is met. Purchases made directly with your credit or debit card without using Paze at checkout are not considered a Qualifying Purchase. You may earn up to ten (10) $10 statement credits up to a total of $100 in statement credits per eligible credit or debit card available in your Paze wallet during the Offer Period. In certain cases, a transaction initiated using Paze may not successfully complete due to integration or technical issues. Paze may not support transactions processed on the Discover Network for certain merchants, even if the merchant may otherwise accept Discover Network cards. Transactions that are declined, not completed, or otherwise fail to process are not Qualifying Purchases. Any debit card account selected in your Paze wallet must be open and active at the time of the Qualifying Purchase, and any credit card account selected in your Paze wallet must be open, active with charging privileges, in good standing, and not delinquent or in default at the time of the Qualifying Purchase, in each case, to be eligible to receive a statement credit. Statement credits will be applied to your eligible credit or debit card account and may take up to two statement cycles to appear. This Offer relies on transaction information from issuers, merchants, and payment networks. Paze is not responsible for delays or errors by these parties that affect eligibility or statement credit timing/application. If you do not receive a statement credit for an eligible Qualifying Purchase, please contact the financial institution that issued the credit or debit card used for the transaction. Participation in this offer is optional. If you choose not to participate, you may opt out of Paze at any time by visiting paze.com/optout and following the instructions provided. Opting out of Paze will remove your credit and debit cards from your Paze wallet and you will no longer be able to use Paze to make transactions with participating merchants. The value of this reward may constitute taxable income to you. You are solely responsible for any federal, state, or local taxes associated with the reward. The value of the reward may be reported to tax authorities as required by law. Please consult your tax advisor. This offer is non-transferable and may not be reproduced, purchased, sold, or traded. If Paze, a participating financial institution, or participating merchant determines, in their sole discretion, that you have engaged in or attempted fraud, abuse, misuse, or gaming related to this Offer, you may be deemed ineligible for the Offer, and your participating financial institution may reverse or remove previously issued statement credits or temporarily prohibit you from earning statement credits. Statement credits are not payments and do not replace required payments on your account. Please refer to your account agreement or contact your participating financial institution for details. Paze and your card network will access and monitor information about your Paze wallet transaction, including your card information, to provide the Offer.

Paze reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate this Offer at any time, subject to applicable law. Any modification or termination will apply prospectively only.

Early Warning Services Expands Paze® Online Checkout to Citi

Citi® credit cardmembers gain access to fast, convenient checkout at leading online merchants

NEW YORK, March 17, 2026 – Early Warning Services, the company behind Zelle®, today announced that Citi will offer Paze, the bank-offered online checkout solution, expanding access to millions of customers through one of the largest U.S. credit card issuers.

Seventy-two percent of U.S. consumers surveyed value the efficiency of digital wallets for online transactions and 82% trust their banks’ safety and security more than third-party payment options.* With Paze digital wallet, customers can check out online seamlessly without manually entering card details. Paze also offers added security through tokenization so that actual card numbers are not shared with merchants.

Eligible Citi cardmembers will be able to activate Paze through Citi.com, the Citi Mobile® App or mywallet.paze.com. Customers can then look for the Paze button at the online checkout of participating retailers and easily complete their purchase with just a few clicks. Paze is available at leading online merchants in apparel, electronics, jewelry, food, entertainment, beauty and more.

“We’re always looking for ways to make payments more convenient and secure for our customers,” said Abhinav Anand, Head of Value Cards, Lending and Commerce for U.S. Consumer Cards at Citi. “With Paze, we’re expanding the range of payment options available and bringing our cardmembers another trusted way to check out online.”

Citi joins a group of leading banks and credit unions providing online checkout through Paze. The growing Paze network enables a fast and convenient online checkout experience for consumers while also supporting merchants to drive higher conversion rates and fewer abandoned carts.

“Citi’s decision to offer Paze marks a pivotal milestone in our growth trajectory,” said Eric Hoffman, Chief Partnerships Officer at Early Warning Services. “As one of the largest credit card issuers in the U.S., Citi is extending Paze to millions of cardmembers, accelerating national scale and broadening access to fast, simple online checkout with added security.”

“The addition of Citi marks a meaningful step toward the next evolution of digital wallets,” said Serge Elkiner, General Manager of Paze. “When leading financial institutions come together around a bank-offered solution, we can set a new standard for checkout that is simple and convenient for consumers and built to deliver long-term value for merchants.”
